| "It's like walking on water!" Stand Up Paddling (SUP) is easy to learn, with the proper instruction. It is a great way to explore all types of water and the view is fantastic! Imagine how quiet and effortless it will be as you glide through those secret little bays and estuaries!
And, SUP is a great full-body workout. Because you are standing, you get to use the strong muscles of your legs and your core, as well as your upper body. You get fitter at your own pace as you walk on the water - perfect!

Anyone can Stand-Up Paddle! Our specialty is teaching people with no surfing or paddling experience at all. The only prerequisite is that you are comfortable in the water, have a bit of balance and want to try something new!
We limit class size to ensure you have a great time and learn as much as possible! Our energetic instructors are carefully screened and fully trained - each is completely focused on your fun, learning and safety!

All Undercurrents outdoor Stand Up Paddleboarding courses follow the nationally recognized standards of Paddle Canada. All of our instructors are Paddle Canada certified.

Weekday evening classes last approximately 2½ to 3 hours - we meet at the store at 6:45 PM. Sunday classes meet at the store at 11:00 AM and run for 5 to 6 hours, incorporating the intro and advanced SUP half-courses into one day. For groups of 3 or more, we will arrange a custom course at another time to accommodate your schedule.
Included in each course are the paddleboard, paddle, leash, PFD wetsuit and helmet (river only). In your course confirmation you will receive a complete list of what to bring. Participants will be required to sign our waivers to participate.
SUP Intro! $79
Our SUP Intro! class is for those who have never been on an Stand Up board before. We teach: How to load and transport a SUP, applicable Coast Guard regulations, understanding the equipment, water knowledge, balance and paddling techniques. You will leave the SUP Intro! class with the necessary knowledge to SUP on calm water (lakes and estuaries), whether for fun or fitness training. Prerequisite: None.
SUP Advanced! $79
In the SUP Advanced! class you will learn the day paddling skills needed to paddle inland waterways with wind and waves. We teach: Pivot turns, wave surfing, paddling upwind and downwind, edging and bracing, while we also improve your existing strokes. You will leave the SUP Advanced! class with the confidence to paddle inland waters in a variety of real-life conditions. Prerequisite: SUP Intro! or equivalent.
SUP Flatwater Combo! $149
The SUP Flatwater Combo! combines all the content of SUP Intro! and SUP Advanced! into one convenient course. Learn everything you need to know to Stand Up Paddleboard on lakes big and small. Prerequisite: None. NEW DATE! Sept 18
SUP The River! $89
SUP The River! teaches you how to safely use your paddleboard on easy rivers! We will teach the following: River safety, paddling in the current, using eddies (safe places to start or stop your trip), surfing and equipment for the river. You will leave the SUP The River! class with the necessary knowledge to SUP on easy rivers (like the Bow River in Calgary) with confidence. Prerequisite: SUP Advanced! or equivalent.
