Matt has been working at Undercurrents since 2004 and instructing since 2000. He is an ORCA Level III Canoe Instructor, Swift Water Rescue Technician Level 2 and a certified Ottawa River Raft Guide. He teaches our pool-based clinics.Matt learned how to paddle in Algonquin Park as a child, got hooked and has been paddling ever since. He began paddling white water on the Madawaska and Ottawa Rivers and was teaching for the Ottawa Canoe Club by the age of 16. Since then Matt has taught for the Madawaska Kanu Centre (MKC), The Paddler's Co-op, Scouts Canada, The Rocky Mountain Paddling Centre and Undercurrents.
When not paddling Matt is usually working in the store or volunteering with the Calgary Search and Rescue Association. He can be found on the river, surfing in any season. In the winter he snowboards, skis and plays pick up hockey. Matt just completed his degree in Psychology and is applying for grad school in Emergency Management.
