Greenland Rolling Pool Clinic

There is no such thing as "The Greenland Roll." In Greenland, there are more than 30 different rolls for different circumstances, and most of them share something in common; there require little energy - provided you move your body in the prescribed way. During this 90-minute clinic you will work our way through the movements for some of the simpler rolls. You do not require a Greenland-style paddle or kayak to participate.

This is not a beginner course. Participants should be able to do a basic roll already.

Expected Outcome:

You will successfully work towards completing various Greenland rolls. Students can retake this class to learn additional Greenland rolls or improve your existing rolls.

Instructor Student Ratio:

1:4 (MAX) to ensure you of the best instructional experience possible!

Kayak, paddle and sprayskirt are provided by MRU, but it is best to bring your own Greenland or Euro-style paddle. If you want to bring your own boat let us know. For space reasons, maximum boat length is 13 feet.

Some students find that swimming goggles and nose plugs are helpful - we spend time underwater, hanging from our kayaks.

16+ years old (or 12-15 years old with a guardian in the pool).

Completion of the Kayak Discovery Clinic, or previous experience with a kayak and the ability to perform a wet exit.

The ability to do the standard Greenland roll, like the one taught is our Kayak Rolling Pool Clinic.

Registration & Refunds

Full payment is due at registration to secure your spot in the course.

On the rare occasion when Undercurrents cancels a lesson, we will issue a full refund or make every reasonable effort to register you in an equivalent program; it is your choice. We need 3 participants to run a course.

If you cancel for any reason more than 7 days (14 days for multi-day courses) prior to the course commencement, you will receive a full refund less our $10 administrative fee.

There is no refund if you cancel for any reason within 7 days (14 days for multi-day courses) of the course.

Courses go rain or shine. Here in Alberta we can have rain, snow, blistering heat or high winds - sometimes on the same day. Don't believe weather forecasts; dress for varying weather conditions. If you need help, our store staff can give you great advice!

A “risk of thunderstorms” forecast does not mean we will cancel a course. During the warm season “risks” are issued too frequently; we only experience thunderstorms at our course locations 10-20% of the time that a “risk” is issued. We will meet at the course location and make an appropriate decision using the outdoor industry’s standard lightning protocol.
