Description:

New kayakers: this course is for you! Our comprehensive on-water introductory lesson will give you the hands-on training and skills required to kayak in protected waters. This course features kayaking safety information, essential equipment knowledge, launching & landing skills, kayak strokes, and more. The skills and enthusiasm of our certified instructors, combined with the low participant:instructor ratio, will ensure a fun, comfortable, safe and educational experience!

Kayak FUNdamentals is the foundational course for all our our kayak instructional programs.

Expected Outcome:

Upon completion of this course, you will have the skills and confidence to paddle your kayak in protected waters.

1:6 (MAX) Our ratio is the lowest in Alberta to ensure you have the best instructional experience possible! ?Part of the famous Undercurrents experience!

Notes:

Kayak and related gear is provided.

This clinic is designed for adults – all participants must be at least 16 years old. Children 12-15 are welcome to participate if a parent is also registered in the clinic.

All participants are required to complete and sign our standard waiver.

All of our instructors are Paddle Canada certified! Their certifications are current, and they undergo regular professional development. Most paddling schools in Alberta don’t meet that standard. ? Part of the famous Undercurrents experience!

After you complete this course, take our Kayak Next Step course to earn the Paddle Canada Basic Kayak skills certificate! We encourage all paddlers to use the time between courses to nail-down their newly learned skills.

Prerequisites:

None. But a willingness to learn and a fondness for fun won’t hurt.

Kayak FUNdamentals runs:

  • at Glemnore Reservoir, Heritage docks, (Google map) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.
  • at Harmony Lake (Google map) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. The map does not show the lake, but believe us – there is a beautiful lake there! (Google’s data is old)
  • at the Calgary Yacht Club on Lake Chestermere (Google map) on Fridays from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.
